چکیده

In the paper characteristic features of the corona noise from UHV transmission lines have been distinguished, which can be useful for the noise measurement under high level interference conditions. The utility of statistical methods in elimination of typical environmental interference has been shown, particularly methods based on the measurement of statistical spectra. The effect of inaccurate determination of fair and bad weather conditions periods, and the presence of tonal components in the corona noise spectra on the result of long-term level calculation has been also discussed. Tonal Component of the Audible Noise from Uhv-ac Transmission Lines

On high voltage overhead transmission lines foul weather usually results in audible noise with a broadband crackling and a tonal component at twice the mains frequency (2f). In the 1960s to 1980s, when the implementation of UHV-AC transmission with voltages up to 1500 kV was being considered, an intensive research into the broadband noise was initiated. However, only a scant amount of literatur...

Effect of Altitude on the Audible Noise Level of AC Power lines

The audible noise (AN) induced by corona discharge of AC transmission lines is more severe at high altitudes than at low altitudes; this has become a crucial limiting factor for the structural design of power lines and their environmental impact assessment. To determine the altitude effect and correction of AN level for AC power lines, a corona cage test system was used to measure the acoustic ...

Audible noise of hybrid AC/DC overhead lines: Comparison of different prediction methods and conductor arrangements

The concept of partial conversion of existing tower phase arrangements to hybrid HVAC/HVDC overhead lines has become an attractive solution to meet the demand for higher power transmission capacity. Due to mutual AC/DC coupling effects, corona phenomena such as audible noise can be affected and have thus to be predicted accurately. In this paper, existing empirical equations are used to predict...

Capillary absorption as an audible noise reduction scheme for UHV transmission lines

Audible noise generated from water drops collected on the transmission line conductor surface during foul weather is a major concern in UHV (ultrahigh voltage) transmission line design. Although the noise can be kept to an acceptable level by maintaining a surface electric gradient below 15 to 17 kV/cm, this alternative is quite costly since it would mean having larger conductor bundles and hen...

Mechanism of the tonal emission from ac high voltage overhead transmission lines

Foul weather conditions can lead to corona discharges on high voltage overhead transmission lines which are perceivable as an audible broadband crackling and hissing noise. In such situations this noise is often accompanied by a humming noise at twice the mains frequency (2f ). While the crackling and hissing noise component was widely investigated in the past, the 2f -component went largely un...
